After being absent for around six years, the stage play version of Studio Life’s The Heart of Thomas manga by Moto Hagio has returned to Tokyo. From September 15 to 25, the Theater Sun-Mall will present the most recent round of shows.
A friend at a German boarding school commits himself, which leads to the events in Hagio’s legendary manga from 1974. Particularly for Juli, whose new roommate resembles the recently murdered Thomas, the secrets and anguish that afflict several of the lads begin to surface.
Since 1996, Studio Life has been presenting a stage play adaption. Yoshiki Yamamoto and Shigeto Aoki are in the 2022 cast as Juli and Erich, respectively, as as Shinya Matsumoto and Hirokazu Sekido.
English-language editions of the manga They Were Eleven, A Drunken Dream and Other Stories, A,A’, The Heart of Thomas, and Otherworld Barbara by Hagio are available. For the 2016 fiscal year, she received the Asahi Prize. “Honors exceptional people and groups in academia, the arts, and other sectors who have contributed to improvements in Japanese culture and society,” according to the award’s description. Because of her “unique approach to painting manga for young girls,” the organisation picked Hagio. This year, after receiving her third nomination, Hagio was admitted into the Eisner Hall of Fame.
