On September 24, the RetroCrush streaming service from Digital Media Rights tweeted that it was now showing the anime Cyber City Oedo 808. The anime’s English dub has been available on the streaming site since Friday.
The OVA was made available on Blu-ray Disc by Discotek in March 2021.
2808 is the year. The setting is Oedo, a computerized megalopolis in the future where aspirations for a better tomorrow are being swept away by a wave of crime, depravity, and villainy. Forced to their breaking point, the forces of law and order have no choice but to utilize the criminals they catch to hunt down more offenders.
Sengoku, Gogul, and Benten are three experienced cybercriminals. They must choose whether to spend the rest of their life in prison or join a special unit of the Cyber Police in order to maybe have another shot at freedom after being given a harsh decision by police chief Hasegawa. Oedo will face some harsh retribution as a result of their unsubtle combination of severe violence and profanity.
The state will consent to reducing their sentences when every criminal is captured and every operation is successfully performed. Will they live long enough to regain their freedom, though, given that Hasegawa has each of them on a 300-year sentence and uses explosive collars to keep them in line?
On June 28, the business made the enhanced Blu-ray Disc version of the OVA available.
The 1990 three-episode OVA was directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Wicked City).
The anime was originally made available by Central Park Media on DVD and VHS.
