Mercedes become the race hoping on a circuit in which they have good form. They made minor upgrades to the race, which result in working well. The car is stronger than before, and the tyres are working well.

Leclerc hit Verstappen through turn one. The wing got damaged by a Ferrari driver and was forced to pit for a replacement. The incident will be investigated after the race.

Bottas quickly opened up a two-second hole on Vettel, serenely coordinating Finn’s lap times, while Hamilton was edging up in third. Ferrari set Vettel first on lap 17 to take the delicate tires, focusing on a two-stop race.
