The voice actor Takahiro Sakurai’s authenticity as reported in the media was confirmed by talent agency Intention on Friday. When questioned if he was married to a former voice actress, Sakurai said “Yes,” according to a tabloid article published earlier that day in the Weekly Bunshun.
While stating that Sakurai had expressed a desire to keep details of his private life private, the agency did acknowledge that the information in the published story was accurate. The agency expressed regret for the commotion and requested that fans continue to support Sakurai.
When Sakurai unintentionally alluded to his “wife” during the “Comechat Countdown” live radio broadcast in February 2018, speculation regarding his marital status began to spread. During the show, Sakurai started to talk about how a person he knows particularly like Card Captor Sakura. Initially, he says something that sounds like “My wi—-, uh acquaintance really likes it,” then he laughs nervously. Despite Sakurai’s gaffe, the rest of the cast appeared unconcerned, and the program continued as scheduled.
Although Bunshun directly questioned Sakurai about his married status last week, Sakurai said in the affirmative, but he chose not to elaborate on his spouse, adding that despite audience requests, he has made the personal decision not to discuss his marriage in public. The Bunshun reporter said that Sakurai was quite kind and composed throughout the spontaneous conversation.
Among the many characters Sakurai has voiced are Cloud in Final Fantasy VII, Giy Tomioka in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Giy Tomioka in Berserk, Suzaku in Code Geass, Ayame in Fruits Basket, Rohan in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, Reigen in Mob Psycho 100, Sasori in Naruto Shippden, Francis F.
