The primary cast and May 26, 2023, theatrical release date for Saku Sakamoto’s anime film The Feast of Amrita (Amrita no Kyen) were made public on Friday by the production team.
Cast members are:
- Maaya Uchida as the protagonist Tamahi
- Mamiko Noto as Aki, Tamahi’s friend
- MoeMi as Yū, a classmate
Additionally, the staff unveiled eight brand-new movie screenshots.
The movie will have its world debut on May 26 at the Cine Libre theaters in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, and Umeda, Osaka. The movie’s release date was initially set for 2021, but COVID-19 forced a change.
The film is a prequel to Sakamoto’s first film, Aragne: Sign of Vermilion. The main character of the narrative is Tamahi, a high school student who must navigate a massive apartment complex while avoiding unusual animals.
Like Aragne: Sign of Vermilion, Sakamoto is producing the new anime movie by himself; in addition to creating the original concept, he is also scripting, animating, directing, and composing the soundtrack for the movie. Few anime productions lasting longer than 60 minutes have in the past used a one-person production staff.
Sakamoto successfully used the Japanese crowdsourcing website Makuake to raise money for the Aragne: Sign of Vermilion animation. In March 2017, the project’s 2 million yen (about $17,800) funding target was reached. The team later launched a successful Kickstarter effort to raise money for an English translation and festival screening costs. In 2017, the campaign lasted from September through October. The movie debuted in July 2018 at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal, Canada.
In 2002, Sakamoto started generating anime on a freelance basis. He oversaw Minna no Uta for NHK. For Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, he also worked on 3D computer graphics, and in 2014, he produced an anime short promoting tourism in Matsuyama City.
