The narrative is narrated as follows by HIDIVE:

Some actors are simply not cut out to portray the flamboyant, in-your-face hero or the cunning, mustache-twirling villain with larger-than-life panache. Instead, they work behind the scenes, using cunning and intelligence to manipulate society. When Cid is sent to an other realm, he want to assume that position. Cid weaves a few yarns and ends up as the improbable head of the shadowy Shadow Garden group, which battles a dangerous cult (which he totally made up). But there’s a problem that not even his wildest vision anticipated: the cult he invented truly exists, and they are beyond furious that his power fantasy just thwarted their terrible schemes!

The Darwin’s Game and Granbelm anime at Nexus is being directed by Kazuya Nakanishi, the principal animation director for Darwin’s Game. Animation is being created using Tzai’s original character designs under the direction of Makoto Iino (Demon Lord, Retry!, Suppose a Kid From the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town). The series scripts are being overseen by Kanichi Katou (Those Snow White Notes, Black Clover). The tunes are being written by Kenichiro Suehiro.

In the anime, Seiichir Yamashita will play Cid Kagen/Shadow, Kana Hanazawa will play Alexia Midgar, Yko Hikasa will play Iris Midgar, Asami Seto will play Alpha, Inori Minase will play Beta, Suzuko Mimori will play Gamma, Ai Fairouz will play Delta, Hisako Kanemoto will play Epsilon, Ayaka Asai will Hyoro Gari and Jaga Imo, two of Cid’s companions from the Midgar Royal Spellsword Academy, join the cast as Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Shin Matsushige.

The narrative was initially serialized by Aizawa on the “Shsetsuka ni Nar” (Let’s Become Novelists) website in May 2018, and in November 2018, Kadokawa started releasing the novel in hardcover volumes with illustrations by Tzai.
