The CGI animated series Oni: Thunder God’s Tale, produced by the California-based Tonko House, will premiere on Netflix on October 21.
Among the cast members of Oni: Thunder God’s Tale are Momona Tamada, Archie Yates, Craig Robinson, Tantoo Cardinal, Brittany Ishibashi, Omar Miller, Anna Akana, Charlet Takahashi Chung, Miyuki Sawashiro, Yuki Matsuzaki, Seth Carr, Robert Kondo, and George Takei.

One of the creature’s free-spirited daughters, Onari, is determined to follow in the footsteps of the powerful heroes of lore despite the fact that she still doesn’t know the full extent of her special abilities in a world full of the bizarre gods and monsters from Japanese mythology. Has she have what it takes to stand up for her idyllic community against the advancing threat posed by the enigmatic adversaries of the gods, the “Oni”?
Four episodes will comprise the program.
The series’ author, Mari Okada, is also responsible for the manga series Toradora!, A Lull in the Sea, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Kiznaiver, and Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan.
The project’s inventor and showrunner is Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi, Hayao Miyazaki’s nephew-in-law. Kane Lee, Tsutsumi, and Robert Kondo all serve as executive producers. In addition to producing the show, Sara K. Sampson collaborates with Megan Bartel as co-executive producer.
Together with the Japanese visual effects firm Megalis VFX, as well as the CG companies Marza and Anima, Tonko House is creating the series.
