The Old Guard is a 2020 American superhero film. It is directed by Gina Prince – Bythewood and written by Greg Rucka. It is based on a comic book with the same name written by Greg Rucka. In this movie, a team of immortal who help people has to save themselves from a business person who wants to know the reason for their regeneration so that he can use it to regenerate.

In this movie, the film stars are Charlize Theron, Matthias Schoenaerts, Kiki Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Harry Melling, Luca Marinelli, Van Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The Old Guard was released on July 10, 2020, on Netflix. It was on trending soon after the release. The sequel is in development.

Plot

Andromache ” Andy ” of Scythia, Booker, Joe, and Nicky are the centuries-old warriors. They all have unexplained healing abilities, which they used to save people. They got work from former CIA operative James. One time they got a job to rescue a group of girls in South Sudan. It turned out its a trap. They were killed, but they came back to life and killed all of them due to their healing abilities. Copley set them up and also filmed a video of their regeneration.

Nile Freeman in Afghanistan U.S. Marine got her throat slit while catching a military target during a house search. She came back to life, and her neck got healed without a scratch. All her teammates are in shocked and started giving her a weird look. All this came in the dream of Andy, Booker, Joe and Nicky. Whenever they had a dream like this, a new member will join their team soon with the same powers. Andy went to take the Nile with her.

Andy tracked down the Nile and took her away from Afghanistan. The Nile tried to fight back with Andy is an old warrior who knows all the tricks. Andy took her forcefully. Copley shows the video of the ambush to pharmaceutical executive Steven Merrick. He wants to capture them and do some test so that he can also regenerate like this. Andy brings the Nile to their safe house in France, where all her teammates await them.

The Nile came to know about a female immortal, Quynh, who was the first of Andy’s comrades from the group. She was captured. Accused of witchcraft and then cast somewhere into the sea in an iron maiden. She has been continually drowning and then coming back to life repeatedly. The Nile tried to find her for years. Group also told her that they are not immortal. They can die, but they don’t know when. The healing ability will stop one day without warning, which happened to a previous immortal, Lyon.

Merrick’s force ambushed the group in the night in which Joe and Nicky got captured. Booker is left behind but in terrible shape. Andy kills all other assailants while Booker was regenerating. During the fight, Andy got wounded and realized that she is not healing. Andy and Booker went to Copley to learn about their teammates while the Nile decide to reunite with her family.

Booker betrayed Andy, and Andy got caught. Booker found that Andy is not recovering anymore. All their teams have been taken by Merrick, who is willing to torture the immortals indefinitely to study them. The Nile realized that Booker betrayed the group, and she went with Copley to rescue them. Nile storms Merrick’s London office and free all the immortals. All the immortals fight with all other securities guards while protecting Andy. Nile jump out of the window with Merrick while saving Andy.

As punishment for Booker betrayal, he was sentenced to loneliness and forbidding him from contacting them for the next 100 years. The rest of the team meets with Copley, who showed them how their past missions had a greater effect on humankind. Team asked Copley to maintain their secret and find a mission that can help other people.

After six months in Paris, Booker came to his home in a depressed and drunk condition, where he found Quynh was waiting in his apartment.

On July 10, 2020, The Old Guard movie was released on Netflix. Over the first weekend, it was on trending on Netflix. After two weekends, it was in second and fourth position. Millions viewed it over the first four weeks reported by Netflix on July 17. It became the top 10 most successful original launched on Netflix.
