On Saturday, more cast members, a new character video, and a new picture for NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a, the television anime adaptation of Square Enix and Platinum Games’ NieR:Automata action role-playing game, were unveiled on the website for the project.
The new cast members are:
- Chiaki Kanou as Commander
- Keiko Isobe as Operator 60
- Meari Hatsumi as Operator 210
The anime will premiere in January 2023, and stars:
- Yui Ishikawa as 2B
- Natsuki Hanae as 9S
- Hiroki Yasumoto as Pod 042
- Kaoru Akiyama as Pod 153
The anime is being directed by Ryouji Masuyama (Blend S, Hello WeGo!) at A-1 Pictures, and Masuyama is working with Yok Tar from the original game to compose the series. Character design and principal animation director duties are both performed by Jun Nakai. The music’s composer is MONACA.
The plot of the game is as follows, according to Square Enix:
In NieR:Automata, the androids 2B, 9S, and A2 fight to retake the machine-driven dystopia that has been taken over by strong machines.
Mechanical creatures from another planet have forced humanity out of Earth. A group of android warriors are sent by the human resistance in a last-ditch attempt to retake the planet and annihilate the invaders. Now, a conflict between androids and robots is raging… An impending conflict that could reveal a long-forgotten truth about the Earth.
Japan received the PlayStation 4 version of NieR:Automata in February 2017, while North America and Europe received their copies in March 2017.
In addition, Square Enix launched the game for the Xbox One in June 2018 and the PC via Steam in March 2017. On October 6, the game was launched on the Nintendo Switch. Over 6 million copies of the game have been shipped and downloaded digitally.
