Tomohiko Ito, director of anime, begins his first manga.

On Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype web manga site last Friday, animation director Tomohiko Ito and illustrator Mekki Kuroyama debuted a brand-new manga named Wonder X. Ito is writing the narrative, while Kuroyama is doing the artwork. Ito’s first manga is this one.

The manga takes place in the first half of the 1990s and revolves on the journey of a group of young people who come into touch with an enigmatic creature.

Ito is most known for helming the Sword Art Online anime’s first two seasons as well as the anime movie Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale. Ito has also helmed anime films including ERASED, Silver Spoon, and Occult Academy. His most recent project was directing the 2019 anime movie Hello World.

When Script Room was established by Aniplex in 2016, Ito took over as the organization’s director.
