Tuesday brought news of the cast, crew, and 2023 premiere date for the live-action adaptation of Makoto Ojiro’s Insomniacs After School (Kimi wa Hkago Insomnia) manga.
Isaki Magari and Ganta Nakami are the two main characters of Nana Mori’s Weathering With You and Daiken Okudaira’s Mother and Sch Shihatsu no Sappkei, respectively. The film is being directed by Chihiro Ikeda (Tokyo Rendezvous, Towako Omameda and Her Three Ex-Husbands, Creepy, Startup Girls). Project management and production are handled by United Productions, while distribution is handled by Pony Canyon.
The crew spent around a month filming there between July and August because the manga is set in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Two sleep-deprived schoolmates named Ganta and Isaki are the subject of the comic. Both worry about their ongoing sleep deficit. The two have an unexpected connection after randomly running into one other at the observatory that has been converted into storage space at the school.
In May 2019, Ojiro published the manga in Big Comic Spirits, a publication published by Shogakukan.
An anime for television is also being inspired by the manga, and it will debut in 2019. In 2019, artwork from the manga was utilised in the music video for the song “Enshin” (Centrifuge) by the rock group Macaroni Enpitsu.
