Theme song by Ryuichi Sakamoto is included in the exception anime’s opening video.

Ryuichi Sakamoto, a well-known film score composer and musician (The Last Emperor, The Wings of Honeamise, Appleseed), debuted the opening theme song for the Exception anime during the Netflix Tudum Japan livestream event on Sunday.

Sakamoto’s involvement in the anime’s music was previously disclosed by Netflix.

Character designs for the series were created by Yoshitaka Amano of Final Fantasy and are based on a new plot by author and filmmaker Hirotaka Adachi (also known as “Otsuichi”). Additionally, Adachi is penning the story. The anime is being produced by Tatsunoko Production, Bakken Record, and 5 Inc., with Yuuzou Satou directing the series.

The tale, as it is described by Netflix, takes place in a distant time after mankind has been expelled from Earth and forced to relocate to a another galaxy. A reconnaissance crew is dispatched to look for terraforming-friendly planets. A biological 3D printer is used to build the crew, but a technical error results in Lewis, one of the crew members, emerging in an abnormal state. In the terrifying blackness of the ship, a countdown to the mission’s conclusion starts as Lewis turns against his fellow crew members Nina, Mack, Patty, and Oscar.

Early this month, Netflix unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming space horror anime, which will premiere at the Netflix Festival Japan in 2021. Beginning on October 13, Exception will only be available to view on Netflix.
